<blockquote><p>Error 442: Failed to Enable Virtual Adapter</p></blockquote>
<p>To fix this you need to do this :</p>
<ol>
<li>Open Registry editor (Win + R, type &#8220;regedit&#8221;, return or run)</li>
<li>Browse to the Registry Key <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong><span style="color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\CVirtA</span></strong></em></span></li>
<li>Select the <strong>DisplayName</strong> to modify</li>
<li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Remove the leading characters from the value data upto </span><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">&#8220;%;&#8221;</strong>
<ul>
<li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">For x86 something like </span><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">&#8220;<span style="color: #ff0000;"><del>@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;</del></span>Cisco Systems VPN Adapter&#8221;</strong></li>
<li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">For x64 something like <strong>&#8220;</strong></span><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span style="color: #ff0000;"><del>@oem8.inf,%CVirtA_Desc%;</del></span>Cisco Systems VPN Adapter for 64-bit Windows&#8221;</strong></li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Try connecting again</li>
</ol>
<p>I found the solution <a title="Windows 8 installation of VPN Client Software ..." href="https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2206150" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
